Event Description
The newly elected SAL Officers have set the regular meeting dates to fall on the 3rd (third) Friday of each month, beginning in March 2017. Meetings will be held at the Glenwood American Legion Post #187, starting at 6:00 p.m. SAL members and those interested in learning more about the SAL or the Glenwood American Legion are encouraged to attend the meetings.

All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Section 1, of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion. The SAL has no form or class of membership, except for active membership. Annual membership dues for the Glenwood SAL are $15.00/year, of which $10.00/year is paid directly to the State Organization.

Membership and active participation in the SAL complements other existing programs and serves as an enhancement of the SAL member in both their scholastic and extracurricular endeavors. Care is taken to permit members to develop and use their own initiative and ideas in working out details of activities. Legionnaires on the supervisory committee serve primarily as counselors for the squadron’s leadership. For more information and/or to become a SAL member, please contact one of the officers noted above, or stop by the Glenwood American Legion Post #187 and complete the simple application.

SAL members are proud possessors of a priceless heritage. As male descendants of veterans
of the Great Wars, members associate themselves together as “Sons of The American Legion” for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the association of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the Community, State and Nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy, to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.
